Stays
Cases may be stayed by court order in certain circumstances. Examples include:
cases in which an appeal is pending; or
federal preemption of a cause of action brought in state court. Rule 1:40-6(c) allows the court to stay discovery when a case is referred to mediation, but the parties may not stay discovery by consen t.
